it's that day, yet again

well boys and girls. i'm sitting here swallowing my morning necator and wishing i lived in a victorian age somewhere. today, i get to travel to north phoenix (scottsdale, for those of you who are sticklers for that sort of thing). it is time to go see the good doctor and let him poke, prod and otherwise take liberties with my throat that i never allowed either of my god-less heathen ex-wives to have. oh well, i know it is for the best, i just sometimes wish i could be normal and just say screw it. off to mayo clinic today. happy happy; joy joy.

yes, there really is a kawkawlin, michigan

ran across these two pictures taken in kawkawlin, michigan from july 27, 1966.
first on is my mom and my cousin jan. her and corkey lived with us in a small trailer while dad and corkey were on a job. my world was the couch. ahh growing up was a hoot.

this second picture is me being stupid. i have no clue and would deny being this lame if there was no photographic proof to the contrary.

my eldest son

i sometimes forget to say how much i love my eldest son, william. it has been said that we even walk alike; and i reckon' so. him and i both play and cry together. i, like most every father, am so very proud. he is and always will be my rock.

as always, a justifacation leads to...

the dark side. and so, with it, it is the same old story. i was pissed because of the announced delay in 'HOME'.

it took about an hour really. some of the vile implements of wrong and this miscarriage of intent was defiled and completed.

it's funny really, how just an instant of misguided disappointment and supposed rage at the powers that be, can be used as a salve to coat ones indiscretion.

then, that decision you made in the blink of an eye; will be carried by you as in any transgression of faith, as a badge of dishonor to the grave.

it is complete, enjoy the carrion.

the hovel

i thought i would post a picture of the center of the universe for you today. your center may be different but this one is mine. it is from here that all things flow and are explored. it is my window out. outside the drudgery that is every day for me. i have some good times with friends and family. however, i have no one to share with. to be right with. to become whole for. so, i set here most of the time and wonder.

Raiders of the Lost Saucer! [Concept Art]

By: Kevin Kelly
What would have happened if Raiders of the Lost Ark met Sid and Marty Krotfft's Lost Saucer? It might have looked a little something like this. Of course, you might have a chance to see this scene...

yesterday @ the pima co. fair

trevor got the days events off to a start by playing the star spangled banner a la hendrix and he did an outstanding job. then it was time to get a beer and see the sights.

the fair is getting rather large and takes a day to see if not more.

other that the sun burns we all got, it was a fun day.

sometimes you need to slow down

take a look around you and enjoy the view. sometimes, the most spectacular view is right there in front of you. sometimes, life can get just a little to fast or hardened to allow for enjoyment. sometimes, it falls upon you to seek it out and live in the moment. sometimes, you just have to open your eyes.

she will be gone soon

the last of my children, heather, will be moving out soon. i have had kids under my feet for 30 years. it will be an odd time for me i am sure, but something tells me i shall survive. i will not lie and say i will not miss her. i am sure i will, but for the first time in a long time i will be able to ....

Pendleton Woolen Mills Frontierland Letterhead

as many of you know, i have a fondness for early disneyland collectibles. i recently added another peice of 'paper' history to my collection thanks to my friend matterhorn 1959 at stuff from the park.

a nice fully illustrated letterhead from the pendleton woolen mills store that once was the mainstay in frontierland. the engraving on the letterhead shows a vignette of the store with a list at the bottom of the various types of clothing and blankets made by the company. according to information, the store would sell the item and ask for the purchasers hometown so the hometown pendleton outlet could be paid a portion of the sale price. several pieces were found at the bottom of a drawer when the pendleton store was closing in 1990,of which this is one.

a memory found in my wallet

the other day, there was a series of interesting conversations on various forums i frequent about disney doing an adaption of a phillip k. dick novel. those discussions caused me to mention a visit i made to my daughter's school to speak to them about science fiction in it's written form. i shared with them many examples of authors as wide ranging as dick, verne, heinlein, pohl and several others.

well, turns out that event took place in feburary of 1993. i was going through my wallet looking for receipts to go with my income taxes and i found this little appreciation from her class. it has lived folded in my wallet for 15 years. memories are a good thing. it continues to reside in my wallet.

it has come to my attention

that i do not really exist. i am sorry for this inconvenience, however, due to this disturbing news, i will not be posting a picture or making any short quip about it. the sad news of my being non sentient came to me via the internet - therefor it must be true. now, i will be off to inform my creditors that they are sadly mistaken in the delivery of bills; let services i obtain via the internet to cancel the delivery of any items I MAY HAVE BOUGHT. and yes, sadly, contact my grandchildren and let them know that i am merely the figment of someone's cruel and criminal imagination; and that because of this revelation, i will no longer be taking them to the zoo or holding them or talking to them on the phone or, or, or. damn, words have meaning. i wish i could not read.

(don't worry to my millions of loyal followers here at window into a hovel; i have my crack staff of world wide lawyers working on this very issue and they assure me that i will be back by tomorrow. please pardon this slight interruption.)

flight time with the boss

i had a boss when i was in the title insurance business who had been a fighter pilot in viet nam and still flew a lot. this is not to be confused with hang gliding which made me sick- uggg. robert and i would on occesion just fly to nogales for breakfast or maybe to casa grande for lunch. stuff like that. on occasion, we would run nav point scavager hunts which would take us all over the state and into new mexico. i remember those as being a blast.

a spoon, once, and...

...a couple of nails were all he ever found really. but, he always had his medal detector with him for weekend jaunts or on any trip we ever made that i can remember. he always enjoyed using it and showing off anything he found. funny, looking back now it was probably just an excuse to get out of the house. i think i understand.

i look at this and wonder...

do i have any of his strength? any of his moral character? is there any part of me that measures up to or deserves the love and guidance he showed? i certainly hope and prey that i do. as i sometimes wonder; i also know that i have faced things he could never even dream about, however, have i faced them as he would have; as a man?

get'n my tan on!

yes, this is me from august of 1955, just hanging out on the front porch and grooving on what ever mom was doing at the time. catching rays was the rage with all the cool 6 month olds back in the day.

Saturday, April 5, 2008

OMG WTF?

ok, what is in my mind? do i think this is going on the cover of a mid-60's glamor magazine. what ever i was thinking is rather disturbing. on the positive side, mom and sis look perfectly normal which is somewhat reassuring.
(hay, i did not name that dog)

a pattern begins to emurge...

remember the strange case of brandon abuse reported right here at the hovel back on jan. 3rd? well, more evidence has come to light of this international know and wanted abuser of small cute and adorable animals. here we see the stealthy approach upon an unsuspecting goat. who could guess what was to happen next as this innocent little animal was about to loose its precious life to the hands of such a monster.

oh my, what a strange place to live

when i was enrolling into the u, i needed to pick a dorm to live in. at that time, the dorms were named after counties in arizona. safford was in graham county, then it was no small leap that i choose graham hall to live in. i lived in the 2nd floor center (what would be to the left in the photo). oh, trust me; amazing stories and weird tales came from this haunt.
